CASTING THE NET FURTHER..
He said “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some”. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish (John 21:6 NIV Version)
During a team away day this summer, Julio Abraham reminded the team to dream big: to desire and have a clear vision of offering better, greater ministries, but to never compromise who we are and what we stand for in Christ.
Phil Morton reports on his new role under a new arm of Derby City Mission - Relief of Poverty.
Over the last few years as the homeless ministry has grown, mainly through the work of Derby Churches Nightshelter and the increased relationship with the local authority, we were approached by Derby City Council to be part of a joint bid to look at preventing homelessness. We were suc-cessful in that bid and a new Relief of Poverty Ministry has emerged.
Our existing projects: Jubilee, Recovery Lunch, Nightshelter and the Food Bank are the foundations to this ministry but the funding will enable us to establish and embed a mentoring scheme and cast our net out further to work with 12 local authority areas in Derbyshire.
This is a huge undertaking but we trust in the Lord for his resources, connections and the right doors to open across the city and county. We are looking to work with churches already engaged in similar ministries with vulnerable people, to PREVENT rather than REACT to homelessness. With this in mind we have appointed 3 new staff.
